Grace is the AIChE President for Fall 2021. From a young age, Grace knew she wanted to work in a lab and do research of some type. Grace credits her decision to study engineering to her father, a mechanical engineer, and her brother, an electrical engineer. Both Iowa grads themselves and both of whom have always encouraged her to pursue a career in STEM and have provided countless hours of help with schoolwork. She feels that chemical engineering perfectly combines her love of math and science and couldn’t imagine studying anything else. Grace is also a member of Omega Chi Epsilon (OXE), the National Honors Society for Chemical Engineers. Her EFA is pharmaceuticals and she began assisting with research in Dr. Feigel’s lab in the summer of 2019. There she is working on a sprayable hydrogel to be used as an alternative treatment for burn wound infections. Her favorite class so far has been Engineering Principles of Drug Delivery taught by Dr. Fiegel. Grace hopes to one day work for a pharmaceutical company doing R&D of new treatment options for patients. She is considering grad school but has yet to decide if she will continue her education or begin a career in the industry upon graduation next spring. When she’s not busy studying Grace enjoys spending time with her sorority sisters in Alpha Phi and at the Java House where she is a barista.
