Samantha Country is the current Social Chair of our AIChE chapter. She currently a senior studying within the CBE department, and she has a custom-EFA of Human Health in Engineering. Because of her involvement in AIChE, Samantha had the opportunity to attend the 2019 National Conference in Orlando, Florida. At the conference, she was able to form networks with other members of AIChE, as well as learn about the seemingly endless opportunities within the chemical engineering field. Although she had difficulty choosing a favorite, some of the courses that Sam has enjoyed most so far are Heat and Mass Transfer, Thermodynamics/Transport Lab, and Biochemical Engineering. Since January 2019, she has been an undergraduate researcher in Professor Shepherd’s Lab within the UI Chemistry Department. Outside of academia, Samantha was a member of UIowa Club Cheerleading (prior to the pandemic) during the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons, and she hopes that she is able to cheer again before graduation! Sam is always excited for winter to roll around, because her favorite way to spend her free time is snowboarding. When that’s not available, you can probably find her somewhere talking about, watching videos of, or petting a cat.
